At the international airport of Cairo, an Egyptian citizen who tried to export more than 230 rare lizards into Ethiopia, was arrested.

Last Monday, during the inspection of baggage of a passenger on a preliminary point of control, customs officials noticed strange objects on the radar screen.

When they opened the suitcase, they were surprised because there were about 230 lizards in it.

Later, the animals were transferred to veterinarians, according to the Arabic newspaper “Asharq Alawsat”.

The previous evening, Egyptian Customs officers intercepted another attempt to smuggle.

Four objects of art which belong to the times of the Ottoman Empire were discovered in one of the boxes, which were to be sent to Japan.

Those were four gilded wall plaques handmade, which contained quotations from the Koran in Arabic and Turkish.

Who was the owner of the box was not reported.

It should be noted that after the popular uprising in Egypt in which Hosni Mubarak was overthrown, the system security controls at the customs of the country was seriously disrupted.

In this regard, many smugglers are trying to export rare or prohibited items.

Every day, customs officers of the international airport of Cairo detain people who are trying to import or export the items of art, weapons, animals, drugs and strong medicines.
